Control Your Mind
I know a lot of people are really struggling accepting what is going on right now in the world with COVID-19. It is hard to change our daily routines and adapt to the new norms. But i think what it comes down to is the mindset that we have each and every day.
Many people are being positive and making the most of their time that they have to spend with loved ones, do things they thought they would never find time for and/or pray. Everyone is dealing with their circumstances and situation as best as they can and in their own way. For me its been a lot of cooking, cleaning, exercise, sitting outside, dance and trying to tune more into my spiritual side. But the one thing that I never could quite manage to make time for before was meditation. And so I've recently been trying to do 20-30 min a day in some form. Whether it is doing a guided meditation session, or even just sitting outside where its quiet and just focusing on what I can sense. I have found that this has been helping me deal with today on a day by day basis and keep some calm and control about my daily life.
I listened to a spiritual discourse recently that talked a bit about meditation and how we need to use that as a tool in many ways:
Turn our negative thoughts to positive
Turn our repetitive thoughts to creative thoughts
Lean on memories for emotional support
Make more conscious decisions
But the main take away was really this: if we can’t manage our emotions and our thoughts it can truly destroy us because stability of life ultimately depends on the mind. If we train our minds and fill it with positivity, calmness, and faith each and every day we can overcome the obstacles ahead of us. In doing so we are able to turn some of these difficult situations into some memorable moments in our life and find the positive in each day and experience.
Our mindsets are what determines how we see things in the world and how we survive each day. If we learn to control our thoughts and and our energy we can see a huge difference in our mental clarity. Sometimes we all just need to take a moment to recollect and take a deep breath to refocus our minds. My current method to control my mind is imagining a beach and breathing to the rhythm of the waves going in and out. My mind refocuses on something calming and I suddenly have more control and feel more empowered to move on. Next time you find yourself in a haze, upset or just feeling a bit lost or down, find a quiet space and take a deep breath. How can you utilize the tools above to help you control your mind and find more peace?
